Year 4 Maths: To count in multiples of 6, 7, 9, 25 and 1000
In Year 4, children become fluent in numbers beyond 1000, They use different representations and models to order, identify and compare numbers by their values. By counting in tens and hundreds, children develop efficient strategies in counting which enables them to fluently count forwards and backwards with larger numbers.
Year 4 extends their knowledge of the number system by including decimal numbers and the fractions that they are already familiar with. Through connecting estimation and rounding numbers to the use of measuring instruments, children make better links between maths in the classroom and real-life contexts.
Children understand Roman numerals in a historical context and understand there have previously been different ways to write whole numbers. They learn the important concept of zero and place value and that this was introduced over a long period of time.
