To recognise the place value of a digit in a four-digit number
Every number has a value. To help us understand this, we use a place value chart to help use see what each digit is worth in a number. As numbers move to the left in a place value chart, they increase invalue. For example, the digit ‘3’ in the tens column is worth 3 tens (30) but 3 in the hundreds column, one place to the left, is worth 3 hundred (300).
